I had the pleasure of  volunteering at the sold-out NYC Coffee & Tea Festival at the 69th Regiment Armory this past weekend. There were over 75 coffee and tea exhibitors, as well as exhibitors who offered samples of a variety of cookies, cakes, chocolates, honey and ice cream. Some of my favorite brands were:

Illy (Always been a fan of this Italian espresso coffee… My favorite flavor is Latte Macchiato)

illy

New York Gourmet Coffee (Delicious, strong flavor)

TEA•RRIFIC! ICE CREAM (Featuring flavors such as Masala Chai; Ginger Matcha; London Mist – Earl Grey with vanilla; Chunky London Mist – Earl Grey, Vanilla, Chocolate Flakes & Pecan Chunks)

Honest Tea (Got to take home Pomegranate Blue & Orange Mango flavors)

Fuze (Honey Gingseng & the Strawberry flavor just for me!)

SO Delicious (They were giving away coconut milk and French Vanilla coconut milk creamer)

SO

Press Tea (Unique way of brewing tea… Opening a shop in the West Village on the corner of Seventh Avenue South and Perry Street.)

There were also some awesome programs, such as Honey for Tea (presented by Bee Raw Honey); Coffee & Chocolate (presented by Black Owl Coffee & Kilwins Chocolates)

Another perk of being a volunteer… The Goody Bag which was full of samples from Adagio Teas, Biscoff Gourmet Cookies, Celestial Seasonings, Choice Organic Teas, Kind Bars, Numi Organic Tea, Raw Revolution, Teeccino Herbal Coffee, Walker’s Shortbread and Wholesome Sweeteners!

Spring 2013 Styles

It’s the first day of spring– the Spring Equinox today! Though you’d never guess it by the chilly, windy weather we’ve been having in NYC, especially by the mini-snowstorm we had Monday evening. So, here’s hoping that the weather will get warmer soon, that the flowers were begin to bloom, and that true spring will arrive. In the meantime, here’s a look at some styles and trends for Spring 2013!

Colored jeans. I already have hot pink (Rockstar – Old Navy) and turquoise (Pretty Girl) colors. Both under $20.

Pastels are huge- They are fun, colorful, girly and flirty. One of my favorite pastel items of clothing is a Forever 21 pastel sea foam green lace skirt. Lace is another favorite trend of mine… So perfectly soft and romantic. I have a H&M short sleeve burgundy lace top that I cannot wait to show off!

Pretty and girly a-line skirts. Pencil skirts, a little more professional though still can be sexy, are also in. I love my dark blue pencil skirt with button detail down the front.

Sexy, sophisticated shift dresses.

Blazers are wonderful and can be used to dress up any look, whether it be a classic black blazer, or something of the more colorful variety.

Another fashion staple this season are bold stripes (also evidenced above). One of my favorite dresses is vertically striped dark navy blue and white, while another one is diagonally and horizontally striped black and metallicy silver.

It should come as no surprise that embellishment details  (glittery sequins, beading, lace, etc) are something I love on clothing, whether it be tops, dresses, jackets, blazers, skirts… It’s a great way to dress up any outfit! A couple of my favorite shirts have embellishments: One has a scattering of large and small silver crystals (purchased in Shanghai) and another has horizontally striped silver sequins on black (Michael Kors).

Leather. I love my new Levi’s Leather Jacket – Black, front zipper details, fur collar, and quite a steal at $60 (Original Price was $250+)

Cap toe shoes are elegant, glamorous and super cute.

Beauty Head Shots

Recently, I did a beauty head shots photo shoot at a studio in Midtown. I got my makeup done at MAC Columbus Ave and the MUA did a lovely job. She used multiple shades of blue, and a purple as well as eyeliner and fake lashes.

We started off with a basic grey background and the navy blue 3/4th sleeve shirt I already had on. This was one of the first shots.

Next I switched into a H&M burgundy lace top and changed the background to a pale reddish with darker streaks and a scattering of flowers in some areas. Side shot and front view shots, below.

After that I put on a layered, ruched white top and shot with a pretty light blue-grey background.

Last change was a sweet blue button down with frills down the middle. This we shot on a sky blue background.

Crossroads Trading Company

DSCN3527

My favorite gently used clothing store is a California-based one, called Crossroads Trading Company, so imagine my surprise and delight when I heard that one opened in NYC in the Flatiron District. I also found out that there is one in Brooklyn, which in the back of my head I knew but never really frequented.

Crossroads carries some of the hottest brands, such as:

  • Gucci
  • Alice + Olivia
  • Zac Posen
  • Elizabeth and James
  • Helmut Lang
  • J Brand
  • All Saints
  • Zara

During my first visit to the NYC store, I picked out some real gems. The first was a Worthington shiny-nude colored long skirt, with an overlay of pale peachy pink-gold colored lace in filmy material. This skirt was a steal at $8.50.

I also snagged a Zara blue striped wrap shirt and a Pleione white chiffon button down with a black sequin collar (from Nordstrom Rack). They were $13.50 and $12.50 respectively.

I also tried on a super cute white and grey fur sleeveless jacket with tan trim and button details, but ended up not buying it for practicality’s sake.

Take a shopping trip to Crossroads Trading Company, or bring in your fashionable spring-wardrobe items that you want to get rid of, and see if you can make some money. I promise, you will not be disappointed!
